SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE

October 2009

As November approaches, it is important that we take the opportunity to reflect on the successful opening of a new school year here in Livermore. One of the wonderful things about working in an educational environment is the opportunity for a fresh start each year.

The theme of this year’s Leadership Team Workshop was taken from Sam Parker and Mac Anderson’s, “212° The Extra Degree.” Workshop activities focused on ways to “turn up the heat” and “put forth the extra effort” to take our District to the next level. I am committed to fostering strong communication links between District personnel and parents so that we can work effectively ogether to take one extra degree of effort to move from good to great; to do wat has never been done; and to be responsible for the results.

I’m proud of the strong foundation already in place, which will provide the framework to do the absolute best for Livermore students in the face of a State fiscal crisis. Our numerous community partners, who play a part in our success, are part of our strong foundation. They volunteer in our classrooms and after school programs, contribute time and money to enhance our programs, and expand access to technology for our students. Their contributions are truly appreciated.

“At 211 degrees, water is hot. At 212 degrees, it boils. With boiling water, comes steam. Steam can power a locomotive.” Along with the other members of the District’s leadership team, I’m here to help teachers, students, and parents generate the power, momentum, and energy to move ahead. I welcome your input at any time. You can reach my office at 925-606-3281. I look forward to another wonderful school year, celebrating our students’ accomplishments and finding new ways to build “steam” to propel us forward.

Thanks to last year’s hard work by all, the District’s Academic Performance Index (API) exceeded the State target of 800 by increasing 24 points to 817. This is quite an accomplishment and one of which we can all be proud.
